Review: Petzl Elia Helmet

By Drew Higgins ,

The Elia’s OMEGA headband system maximizes comfort and optimizes fit by adjusting to the circumference and height of your head, and testers found it molded “really easily and comfortably to a range of head shapes,” especially thanks to the smaller size offered (52-58cm). It might seem like just a smaller version of the Elios, but the secret is in the ponytail slot that eliminates awkward pressure on the back of the head. “I used to get a headache from trying to keep my hair pulled back and wearing a helmet, so I just wouldn’t wear one. The Elia eliminates that problem with a smart design.” At 9.8 ounces, it isn’t the lightest helmet on the market, but the hard shell and harness construction will keep your noggin safe, and do it at a reasonable price.

Why It’s Great for Women

While the ponytail slot might seem a little gimmicky, our testers actually love it and use it all the time. The smaller size range fits petite women better.
