Markus Pucher Completes First Winter Solo Ascent of Cerro Pollone, Patagonia

By Climbing Staff ,

Watch Austrian alpinist Markus Pucher make the first winter solo of Patagonia's Cerro Pollone (8,461'), following the Cara Sur route on the South Face. Pucher wasn't the first to attempt the line. According to pataclimb.com: "Colin Haley (US) soloed to the base of the small blank summit block in 2011. Hervé Barmasse (IT) and Martín Castrillo (AR) reached the same point during the winter of 2013." Pucher has a history of impressive ascents in Patagonia, including a notorious free solo of Cerro Torre in whiteout conditions.
