Sport-Climbing’s Medal Competition for Men Begins Tonight, Are You Ready?

Seven climbers including the two Americans Colin Duffy and Nathaniel Coleman will compete for sport climbing’s very first Olympic medals. The competition begins at 2:00 a.m. MST, in under an hour from now. This will be a historic bout, one that was over 30 years in the making, beginning with the first-ever climbing competition, the “SportRoccia,” held in Italy in 1985 on a real cliff with holds chiseled into the rock. Thanks to the early efforts of pioneering climbing organizers and competitors, and also due to artificial climbing walls and holds being developed, climbing as you now witness it in the Olympic became popular—not many climbers expected that. So, here we are, about to begin. To refresh our memories on just who will be competing tonight, here’s the line up. The French climber Bassa Mawem will have to sit this one out due to a biceps injury he sustained in the Lead qualifier on Tuesday. Let’s wish him a speedy recovery and we hope to seem him at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
