US Olympian Kyra Condie is restless before competitions. “There’s a myth that pros don’t get nervous,” she says. “We absolutely do.”

But Condie wouldn’t be Olympian if she crumbled with nerves before each World Cup. As head coach Josh Larson noted in his video profile, the best athletes can harness that fidgety fear and turn it into performance.

So how does Condie chill out in the stressful moments before a competition? Opera and classical music. She says it’s the perfect isolation companion; the epic tempo motivates her to try hard, but not so intense that it elevates her heart rate.
