The Black Diamond Vision MIPS Helmet.

Our tester used the Vision MIPS on the 500-foot dome of Davis Face in Buena Vista, Colorado. This light (8.5 oz) EPP + EPS + polycarbonate foam helmet incorporates the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) also used in bike helmets; it allows the head to move inside the helmet, reducing the harmful rotational motion transferred to the brain during angled impacts, such as with rockfall. The Vision MIPS was consistently comfortable, and its adjustment system gave a snug fit, meaning our tester “didn’t have to readjust or worry about protection during those heady pitches—pun intended.” MSRP: $150
