The Deuter Guide Lite 24 backpack.

The Guide Lite 24 is a compact, versatile performer perfectly crafted for alpine climbing, rugged approaches, and high-test mountain sports. “Solo Flatirons missions, peak-bagging, desert bouldering, and photography were all made easier with this excellent pack,” said our tester, who noticed no dings in the 100D PA High Tenacity / 630D PA fabric even after a month of battering. The pack had a svelte, stable, light (1 lb, 7 oz empty) carry thanks to its Derlin U-frame, and our tester dug the easy-access top drawstring closure. An axe lashed down well, the rain cover kept moisture out and made for a handy rope holder, and you can strip the pack down for a summit carry. MSRP: $130
