The Black Diamond Technician Approach Shoes.

My idea of a perfect evening commute is to speed up Freeway (5.0) on Boulder’s Second Flatiron. Approach shoes tend to lean toward either comfort or stiffness, but BD’s Technician balances the two, making them my go-to for moving quickly over varied terrain. The ultra-breathable Enduroknit uppers kept my feet cool on the Second’s approach trail, while the BlackLabel-Mountain rubber maintained its sticky grip for technical smearing even on runnels and slick rock. With a low-volume toebox and graduated fit, the Technician is narrowly sized—you can go sock-free for precision and sensitivity. The classed-up skate-shoe style is great for around-town wear as well. MSRP: $135
