I smelled the Alpenglow Hoody long before I first saw it. A good friend of mine, who shall remain nameless for reasons which will soon become obvious, loves his Hoody to death. In fact, from the multi pitch ice climbs, to alpine rock routes, and even 25-mile skimo missions we’ve roped up for, he’s worn that dang shirt without fail. Ask me how thrilled his wife is.
As an aspirant minimalist myself, naturally, I was intrigued. The Alpenglow Hoody has a loose cut, under-the-helmet hood, and UPF 50 sun protection. Though my friend chose to wear this layer on all but the very coldest of days, the Alpenglow Hoody is really meant for use in the hot sun. The engineers at Black Diamond infused it with “BD.cool,” which reflects 71% of near-infrared rays and lowers your overall temperature.
The Alpenglow Hoody also boasts Polygiene odor control, which is certainly does, to some extent, but I’d recommend chucking it in the hamper after a big day in the hills. Your climbing partner will thank you.
