After stripping off an enormous down jacket during an arctic 35° New Hampshire day, I attacked Romancing the Stone (5.10c) in Rumney. Designed as a midlayer, the Arc’teryx Proton AR Hoody’s athletic fit allowed me to move easily on the steep gneiss sport route. The articulated elbows and gusseted underarms didn’t limit my rang of motion. I could shake out well and swing my arms as I fought for more circulation in my tips. Water, wind, and abrasion resistant, the jacket kept the elements out. With a draw cord, the hood fit well around my head, preventing the biting New England wind from numbing me further. The jacket features two chest pockets with thin, zippers, and two larger waist level pockets, which I stuffed my fingers in after clipping the anchors. The color, Rohdei, made me feel stylish despite the numbing temps.
