Soft sunset light on El Capitan, a rope dancing across the glacier of the Torre Valley, a rainbow bringing color to the Owens Valley in Eastern California. These images evoke strong emotions in the climbers in all of us. They show the beauty of the places that we get to visit. They also provide great presents for the holiday season.
Austin Siadak, a professional photographer who has documented mountain landscapes and the climbing lifestyle for the past seven years, is offering prints of these images for the Christmas season. Available in sizes from postcard to full wall art, this artwork offers an opportunity to bring a bit of the places climbers’ treasure to your home.
“I try to seek out unique light in hard to reach places,” said Austin Siadak, “whether that’s on the side of the cliff or in remote mountain ranges. I want to share photos from places that few people get to visit.”
In 2011, Siadak headed west with his camera. A Tufts college graduate with a degree in International Relations, Siadak had quickly figured out that a conventional style life wasn’t for him. He began documenting the mountains around his home in Seattle Washington, in Yosemite National Park, and in Patagonia.
As a contributing photographer for Climbing Magazine, Siadak has shot numerous hard climbs including Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold’s ground breaking speed ascent of the Nose, Sonnie Trotter’s new free variation to El Nino, and Caldwell’s work on freeing The New Dawn Wall. This winter, he’s returning to Patagonia to trek with his brother for a bit as the pair had trekked down there a decade before. He will then climb for a couple of months, aiming to summit Cerro Torre as well as work on a film project documenting Italian climber Matteo Della Bordella as he climbs the West Face of Cerro Torre.
