Liberty Mountain Cowhide Rap Gloves

They say the best offense is a good defense, and the same goes for shielding your most valuable tool: your hands. These belay and rappel gloves protected testers’ mitts from rope burns, cold weather, and other abuse during cragging from Ten Sleep, Wyoming, to Eldorado Canyon, Colorado. These leather guardians are made from tough, sturdy cowhide with three layers on the palm for durability, and after several months of continuous use outside as well as gym climbing, they have shown little wear. Despite the thickness, these gloves proved supple and quick to break in; testers had just enough sensitivity to handle ropes, carabiners, belay devices, and even laces on climbing shoes. A Velcro wrist strap helps you to dial in a secure fit, and five sizes from XS to XL will suit all paws. An idea for future designs: Testers wished for a tab or hole on the wrist to make these gloves easier to pull on when exhausted and sweaty. $25;
