Arm pump has been a pesky, hard to solve issue for many athletes in many different sports and activities for decades. There are many opinions on how to solve this issue, however very few people ever find relief.

Many different activities can cause arm pump. What causes arm pump?

The energy required to perform certain movements attracts blood to the forearm flexor muscles, which are in the forearm compartment. When these muscles fill with blood, the fascia surrounding the muscles can restrict the temporary swelling, which causes tightness in the forearm, causing a weakened grip.

Any time we use energy to exercise and move something in a repetitive motion, the muscles required to complete the movement will attract blood. That is why our legs feel bigger after we go on a run or a bike ride, or while our chest gets larger from doing the bench press, or our forearms get larger from gripping and pulling our bodies up the side of a mountain.
