2012 World Cup Event Kicks Off in China

4/27/12 – The 2012 International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup series commenced with a bouldering event in Chongqing, China, on April 13, with Jakob Schubert and Akiyo Noguchi taking home the year’s first gold medals.

The usual World Cup crowd finished in the top 10, with a few relatively new names showing up. Guillaume Glairon Mondet and Anna Stöhr grabbed second place, followed by Jain Kim Rustam Gelmanov and Jain Kim in third. Alex Puccio, the only American to compete, finished in eighth place.

A week later, World Cup competitors reconvened for the year’s second bouldering event in Log-Dragomer, Slovenia. This time, Rustam Gelmanov and Mina Markovic finished in first place, followed by Kilian Fischhuber and Shauna Coxsey in second, and Thomas Tauporn and Anna Stöhr in third. Puccio was again in attendance, finishing 16th, along with Angie Payne in 31st. Ethan Pringle was the only American male to compete, also placing 31st.
