If you’ve ever stared at a drawer full of long undies and wondered which would be best to prevent you from turning into a Popsicle, you’ll be impressed by the new MOUNTAIN HARDWEAR INTEGRAL BASELAYER ($55, mountainhardwear.com). This piece (I tested the long-sleeve crew, but a zip T and full-length tight are available in a single weight for men and women) offers a unique strategy for trapping body heat and managing perspiration when the mercury drops and you want to play hard outside. The blend of 65-percent Merino wool and 35-percent recycled polyester feels remarkably light and warm, while panels of 100-percent polyester mesh allow hot and sweaty areas, such as armpits, to breathe and dry quickly. Best of all: even with sensitive skin, I could comfortably wear the wool blend without any irritation or itchiness. —Kirstyn Leuner
