Vince Anderson and Steve House have climbed a direct new route on the Rupal Face of 26,657-foot Nanga Parbat in Pakistan, according to www.grivelnorthamerica.com. This is the same route nearly climbed by House and Bruce Miller last year, and it is the line that Tomaz Humar was attempting when he was rescued by helicopter in August. The Rupal Face is considered the largest mountain wall in the world, rising about 12,500 vertical feet.

Details of the ascent are still sketchy, as the pair has just returned to basecamp. Grivel reports: “Six days up and two days to descend, pure alpine style. Very difficult to recover during the effort and the summit day lasted 24 hours.”
