8/28/13 – Twelve-year-old Ashima Shiraishi has climbed The Automator (V13) in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. This is at least her fourth V13, after her ascents of Crown of Aragorn in Hueco Tanks, Texas, in March 2012; Fragile Steps in Rocklands, South Africa, in August 2012; and One Summer in Paradise in Magic Wood, Switzerland, earlier this month.
Shiraishi has been climbing with Paul Robinson and Alex Kahn while visiting Boulder. Already, she’s ticked Sunspot Left (V8/9), Potato Chip and Tommy’s Arete (both V7 flashes), and fired The Automator in only two days of work.
Angie Payne made history in 2010 when she became the first woman to climb V13 with an ascent of The Automator. Shiraishi now has the second female ascent of the problem. She plans to spend a couple more weeks in Colorado, and reportedly Robinson has urged her to try Jade (V14).
Date of ascent: August 2013
