We are now accepting product submissions for the 2010 Climbing and Urban Climber Gear Guides. The gear guides will go on sale at the end of March and be redistributed again in the summer, providing a comprehensive year-round resource for you and our readers. For the third year running, I’ll be the Managing Editor for both guides, and your primary contact going forward. For those of you who don’t know me or haven’t worked with me, I’m the Urban Climber Editor in Chief and the Skram Media Gear Editor. I’m based in Boulder, CO, and will be working closely with Matt Samet, Editor in Chief at Climbing.
We recognize that you’re very busy and that this process is time consuming, so we’re looking to make things as streamlined and straightforward as possible. For that reason, we’ve put together a series of forms that are, we think, simpler to fill out and that will guarantee more accurate data collection. With that in mind, below you’ll find detailed instructions on how to submit your product information.
SUBMITTING PRODUCT FOR THE 2010 CLIMBING AND URBAN CLIMBER GEAR GUIDES:
TIMELINE: Make all submissions for your company or the company you represent by Friday, January 8, 2010. WHAT TO SUBMIT: One product per category per magazine. As an example, belay devices appear in both magazine’s gear guides, so you can submit one belay device for each OR the same belay device for both. HOW TO CHOOSE: We suggest choosing products that are new for 2010. If you don’t have any new products in a given category, select flagship products (i.e., top sellers, classics, or high-end items). WHAT WE NEED FOR EACH AND EVERY SUBMISSION: All the product information requested in the information-request forms in the table below (you must fill in all product info requested to submit the form — this will allow us to offer a consistent set of information for all products across manufacturers, and will streamline the rest of the gear guide process). If you have any trouble with the forms, please contact email@example.com immediately to resolve. High-resolution product shots (300 dpi images in GIF, JPG, PDF, or TIFF format. The product should be on a white background and the shot should include ONLY the product — no patterns or models, please, even with apparel). Please email shots to firstname.lastname@example.org OR upload them to our secure FTP. Be sure to create a new folder and label it with your name or the name of the company you’re submitting products for. Some, however, will be included in one or the other. See below for the types of gear we’ll be featuring in the 2010 Gear Guides. HOW TO SUBMIT PRODUCT INFO: Simply click on the links in the table below. You’ll be directed to a form to fill out. Get your product info ready and type or cut/paste the info into the appropriate fields in the forms, clicking submit after filling in ALL required field (those marked with a red asterisk). After you hit “Submit,” the info will be directed to a private spreadsheet only we can access. As an example, if you’re submitting info on rock shoes and alpine boots, you’ll want to click and fill out both the Climbing and the Urban Climber rock shoes links and the Climbing alpine boots link (as boots are only featured in Climbing).
