Mountain Hardwear and the American Alpine Club are creating a new climbing grant, the McNeill Nott Award, in honor of Karen McNeill and Sue Nott, who disappeared during an attempt on the Infinite Spur of Mt. Foraker in Alaska last month. Nott, from Vail, Colorado, and McNeill, a New Zealand native living in Alberta, Canada, were both sponsored by Mountain Hardwear.

The new McNeill Nott Award aims to preserve the memory and spirit of the two women by helping to fund difficult alpine ascents. The application deadline will be March 1, and the first award will be made in 2007. Further details will be solidified this summer and will be available on the AAC web site: www.americanalpineclub.org.Comment on this story
