Italian Christian Core has established one of the world’s hardest bouldering traverses at Varazze in northwestern Italy. The Long Road of Life is a 57-move link-up of a handful of existing problems, and Core graded the problem as an 8c traverse. Although the grades of bouldering traverses are notoriously difficult to translate, the new problem is likely the equivalent of a 5.14-plus route. The hardest bouldering traverse in the world is thought to be Dai Koyamada’s The Wheel of Life (8c+/5.15a) in Australia.

Core, 31, was ranked fifth in the world in bouldering competition in 2005 and was the world bouldering champion in 2003.
