4/9/12 - A packed house at Movement Climbing + Fitness in Boulder saw the Sport Climbing Series Open National Championships on April 7, with Sasha DiGiulian and Vasya Vorotnikov taking home the gold in the lead competition.
DiGiulian was ranked first coming into finals—thus the last climber to come out—and was the only woman to finish the finals route. DiGiulian also won 2011's SCS Nationals. None of the men were able to finish their route, but Vorotnikov made the clear high point—with a bat-hang move—clinching his win.
Coming in second and third for the women were Delaney Miller and Michaela Kirsch. Both women made the U.S. Youth Team in 2010, and in 2011 Miller finished eighth and Kirsch ninth at the 2011 SCS Open Nationals.
The silver and bronze for the men went to Dylan Barks and Daniel Woods. Barks, 17, really came onto the scene in November 2011 when he repeated Joe Kinder's Southern Smoke (5.14c) at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky.
