Autumn 2008 sees the release of a documentary celebrating the life and achievements of one of the finest raw talents to emerge from the British climbing scene.
Andy Parkin - “A Life in Adaptation” - looks at the life of the Sheffield lad who despite adversity has become one of the world’s outstanding solo climbers and a widely acclaimed artist. Produced by Blue Hippo Media and Weekday Productions, the film is now being internationally recognized and sponsored by media partners UKClimbing.com in the UK, Climbing and Urban Climber magazine in the USA and TVMountain.com in France.
Blue Hippo producer Pip Piper says: “This was a special project which deserved a unique approach. We have been working with Andy on this film for the past 15 months and are delighted to announce that UKClimbing.com, Climbing and Urban Climber, TV Mountain.com are to become its official media sponsors.”
This announcement sees the three media partners join leading outdoor clothing manufacturer, Paramo, in sponsoring the documentary as it nears its completion this Summer. The crew will be filming Andy creating one of his most personal artworks. This will take the form of an installation piece in a prominent but as yet secret location high in the french Alps.
Director David Fair comments: “This film has been very much a collaboration between artist and film makers. This final piece of artwork will produce a stunning centre-piece for Andy’s unique and compelling story.”
The film charts Andy’s life from his origins in a gritty 1970’s Sheffield, his rise as a notable climber, his near fatal accident, gradual recovery and rediscovery of the artist within. Andy has now gained wide respect for his creativity and incredibly, despite his physical restrictions, has returned to cutting edge of challenging first ascents across the globe. The film is set for release this Autumn as it goes to film festivals and will be available on DVD. Updates on the project’s progress will be available through all three media partners.
