Boulder—April 12, Girls Education International to Raise Fund at Dance Party
This Saturday, April 12, Girls Education International, co-founded by North Face athlete and rock climber Heidi Wirtz and writer/climber Lizzy Scully, are holding a “Spring Masquerave” fundraiser at Café Babu in Boulder, Colo.
After going on expeditions to various countries around the world, Heidi and Lizzy decided that rather than be purely self-focused climbers, they wanted to give back to local communities where they climbed. Thus, they founded Girls Education International.
The mission of Girls Education International is to work closely with communities in mountainous regions of the world to expand and support educational opportunities for women and girls. GEI promotes local ownership to ensure that programs respect local culture and values and are sustained over the long-term. GEI fulfills its mission by supporting local education through the development and/or renovation of schools, the hiring and housing of teachers, the provision of scholarships and long-term funding, and by working closely with local NGOs.
Please join Heidi and Lizzy at Cafe Babu, 1335 Broadway, on the corner of University and Broadway, next to the Boulder Mountaineering shop from 10 p.m. – 6.a.m. Bring comfy dancing shoes for this all-night event. The suggested donation is $20. All proceeds will go directly to GEI’s projects in Pakistan, Liberia and Nepal.
Music for the event will be provided by DJ’s Jantsen, Spindler, Future Simple Project, Alala One, and other special guests. For more information, visit www.girlseducationinternational.blogspot.com or www.girlsed.org.
