Heason Solos New E9

Ben Heason has added a slab-climbing testpiece to the British gritstone crag Froggatt Edge According to www.planetfear.com, Heason soloed the unprotected Lonely Heart (E9 6c) after several visits for toprope rehearsal. The climb links sustained and insecure slab moves, yielding a grade roughly equivalent to a technical V8 boulder problem — only this problem is a steep slab more than 40 feet high. Well pleased after this ascent, Heason went on to lap the Great Slab formation via nine other solo ascents, ranging from E2 5c to E7 6b (unprotected or poorly protected 5.10 to 5.12).
