Harald Berger of Austria and Ines Papert of Germany are the 2006 Ice Climbing World Cup champions. Berger won the final competition in Hemsedal, Norway, last weekend to seal the victory for the season. Going into the last of five World Cup competitions, Berger held a slight lead over Simon Wandeler of Switzerland, but the Swiss climber managed only fourth place in Norway. Berger flashed the final route, an M10+ line on natural rock and ice, to finish the season with three wins, including two ties. Meanwhile, Papert completed a clean sweep of the World Cup season, winning all five of the 2006 competitions.Comment on this story
