IFSC Bouldering World Cup Coming to the 2008 Teva Mountain Games

The seventh annual Teva Mountain Games® will host the first IFSC Bouldering World Cup event on United States’ soil in close to twenty years, June 5-8, 2008 in Vail, Colorado. In partnership with USA Climbing and the Town of Vail, the Teva Mountain Games® was successfully awarded this World Cup climbing competition by sport climbing’s governing body, the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC).

“USA Climbing was instrumental in working with the IFSC to land this successful bid, while Vail’s Town Council and the Commission on Special Events helped us to secure the necessary seed funds to begin this wonderful partnership,” states Joe Blair, vice president of Untraditional Marketing, Inc. “We are elated to be working with the Mountain Games® to bring World Cup climbing back to the United States,” said Anne-Worley Moelter, Executive Director of USA Climbing. “This will be a major step in helping us fuel the growth of climbing in the United States.”

The IFSC World Cup competition in Vail will bring the top climbers, coaches and media from over 30 Countries to the Teva Mountain Games at Vail. This will be one of eight stops for Bouldering (World Cups) in the world circuit for 2008. “While the Teva Mountain Games has already had a long list of world renown athletes competing within the event, this addition will be a catalyst to increase our international awareness,” said Joel Heath, president of Untraditional Marketing inc, owner and operator of the Teva Mountain Games®.

In 2008, an estimated 2,000 athletes will compete in over 21 different events including paddling, biking, paragliding, fly-fishing, multi-sport racing, a mountain rescue sortie and climbing events at the Teva Mountain Games. An estimated 35,000 spectators will participate in the five-day festival. In addition to the competitions, the event features a live music festival, a photo and film competition and the Green Light District® as well as a comprehensive interactive expo and demo area with kayak pools, climbing walls, mountain biking courses and clinics offered by some of the world’s top athletes.

The cash purse for the 2008 Teva Mountain Games will be the largest to date—over $100,000.
