Indomitable Snow-Woman

Ecuador’s second highest peak, Cotopaxi (19,347 feet), is almost perfectly conical. The svelte WOMEN’S EMS ASCENT COTOPAXI DOWN JACKET ($199, likewise invokes symmetry and perfection. During snowy, sub-zero (!) Colorado romps, the insulated, detachable hood, ample baffles of 650-fill goose down, and heat-trapping waist and hem cinch cords kept me toasty. Other fave features: soft, polyester-lined hand-warmer pockets; two interior pockets, one for small valuables and one with mesh for gloves or a hat; a snag-free, two-way front zipper; and reinforced shoulders and sleeves. This breathable, water-resistant (via System Three 20K laminate) jacket also comes with a stuff sack.
