The world’s best female rock climber, Josune Bereziartu, posted to www.8a.nu that she has made the second ascent of Bimbaluna at St. Loup, Switzerland, a possible 5.15. The route was established last year by François Nicole and graded 9a/9a+ (5.14d/5.15a). Bimbaluna is a slightly overhanging limestone route about 65 feet long. St. Loup is also home to Bain de Sang, the Fred Nicole route that was Bereziartu’s first 9a, climbed in late 2002. Last year she redpointed Logical Progression (9a/5.14d) in Japan, first climbed by Dai Koyamada. Bereziartu is the only woman in the world to have climbed harder than 5.14b.
Big guns, big wall Bereziartu on E la Nave Va, which crimps its way rightward across the bottom 20 feet of this crag. More on Josune Bereziartu
