Maja Vidmar Sends 5.14c in Italy

Slovenian climber Maja Vidmar has redpointed her hardest route yet, Attilla Luongo (8c+ or 5.14c) at Barratro, in Trieste, Italy.Attilla Luongo is the extension to Attilla (5.14b), a route she first tried in 2005 that she redpointed several days earlier.
Vidmar, a solid competitor, was the overall World Cup Route climbing champion in 2007. She placed 3rd at the World Cup in Qinghai, China last weekend [June 30-July 5, 2009].
One month earlier in May 2009 Vidmar made her first 5.13d onsight at the Kalymnos Climbing Festival. During the festival she onsighted a total of nine routes 5.13b or harder! Click here to read the event report by Aris Theodoropoulos.
It is speculated that Vidmar is the 4th, 5th or even the 6th woman to climb the grade of 5.14c. Josune Bereziartu was the first in December of 2000 when she sent Honky Mix at Onate, Spain. Charlotte Durif and Natalija Gros have also climbed the grade. Jenny Lavarda and Liv Sansoz have both climbed the split grade of 8c/8c+.
