New 2010 Colorado Brewers' Festival

6/15/10 - All of the Colorado beers are coming to town this June, and beer lovers nationwide will descend on Downtown Fort Collins for the 21st annual Colorado Brewers’ Festival. The newly reformatted event will take place on June 26 & 27, 2010, in Civic Center Park. This year’s festival hosts more than 30 Colorado breweries, including six Fort Collins breweries, and boasts more than 50 Colorado craft beers for people to sample. Colorado breweries from the far corners of the state will feature their best native beers at the festival. More than two decades ago, local Fort Collins’ brewery owners Doug Odell and Scott Smith approached the Downtown Business Association with an idea to create an event celebrating local brewing. Twenty-one years later, it is one of the area’s most nationally acclaimed events.

This year, the festival will offer patrons three tasting sessions where they can truly get a sense of their favorite craft beers. More than 50 individual Colorado beers will be sampled (4 oz sampling mugs) throughout the two-day event. As well as the tasting portion, patrons can have direct interaction with the brewers themselves. The festival will showcase each brewery in their own area, offering them a chance to meet and talk with their fans. Colorado has a huge beer industry, and Fort Collins has the most breweries per capita of any city in Colorado. The Fort Collins host brewers will welcome brewing professionals from across the state to come share their craft.

“We are really excited about the opportunity to make some positive changes to the festival. This year, we’ll be able to send brewers from Odell to incorporate some education into the event – in the past, it was just community volunteers pouring the beer so there was no real opportunity for us to reach out to the public. We’ll be able to provide a one-on-one, much more interactive experience for festival goers.”~ Adam D’Antonio – wholesale manager from Odell Brewing Company

If you are coming to hear some great music, then this year’s festival is guaranteed to keep you entertained. The best Colorado beers are matched with the best bands playing on the Colorado Brewers’ Festival main stage for the 2-day festival. The festival will host five large Colorado bands including the Lindsey O’Brien Band and the Fox Street All Stars, as well as a secondary stage of local acts playing bluegrass and performing more intimate shows. The two stages will be filled with continuous entertainment both days.

A dozen food vendors serving everything from traditional beer cuisine like bratwurst and pizza, to more worldly options like Thai food. The food offerings will be the perfect pairing to a wide variety of craft beers and sure to please any palette.

The festival also reminds people to bring sunscreen as we enjoy the beautiful Colorado sunshine. No pets are allowed on festival grounds; please leave all pets at home where it is cool. Grass and shade is available to the festival, and attendees are encouraged to hang out to enjoy entertainment even after their tasting session is completed.

Proceeds from the Colorado Brewers’ Festival help fund year-round downtown activities such as free concerts, Lucky Joe’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, 4th of July Downtown, Santa’s House, and the holiday lighting brought to you by the Downtown Business Association. The proceeds also fund the Fort Collins Downtown Business Association, a non-profit completely self-funded organization that promotes Downtown Fort Collins and help to keep historic Downtown vibrant.
