Fred Nicole has climbed yet another desperate boulder problem at Hueco Tanks, Texas. During a visit to the Texas state park in December, the 35-year-old Swiss boulderer climbed a “logical sit start” to his problem Terre de Sienne, which he established late last winter and graded V15. The new problem, Terremer, starts on the V12 Mer Diaphane (“Diaphanous Sea”) and joins the Terre de Sienne roof.
Nicole, who has established many of Hueco’s hardest problems during a decade of visits, said Terremer could be the toughest yet. “I have … never done something which felt that hard at first, except maybe Entlinge,” a problem Nicole climbed last spring in Switzerland. As for the grade of Terremer, he said, “I’m not sure, but I could propose V16.”Comment on this story
