7/11/12 – Adam Ondra recently made the first ascent of Thor’s Hammer (5.15a) at Flatanger in Norway.
The 180-foot route links the first two pitches of a project bolted by Magnus Midtboe. According to Ondra, the remaining third pitch is “impossible for now, though there are some holds.”
Ondra traveled to Norway in late June and has since made numerous hard onsights, includingNordic Flower(5.14c) and Ethan Pringle’s new Eye of Odin (5.14c), which he describes as “possibly the most valuable onsight ever for me,”—high praise, considering he’s onsighted an appreciable number of 5.14c’s. He also made the first ascent of Leoline L2 (5.14c) at Kvam and the second ascent of the nearby Fraulein(5.14b), which he describes as “incredible crack climbing; a superb line that can’t be missed.”
Date of ascents: July 8, 2012
