“Shoe the Children” Fundraiser – April 10th – Boulder Artist Katie Homes Partners with Outdoor Industry, Local Businesses, to Bring Shoes to NepalBoulder, CO (March 25th, 2008) Put your party shoes on and roll down to Trilogy Wine Bar on Thursday, April 10th to help put shoes on the feet of children and adults in the Kingdom of Lo, Nepal. Boulder resident Katie Homes, founding partner of Little Yoga Warriors, LLC, will be traveling to the Dolpo and Mustang regions of Nepal to deliver footwear to children and adults in need. The celebration for a cause kicks off at 8:30 p.m., at Trilogy, located at 2017 13th Street, in Boulder. The “Shoe the Children” fundraiser will feature three live local bands, headlined by the indefinable bluegrass-inspired sounds of Golden Brown, and opening with dance tracks from DJ This That and The Other, as well as Homes’ own band, Homes’ Skillets. Avery Brewing will provide $2 drafts, and there will be an auction of Homes’ original artwork. In June 2008, Homes, artist, philanthropist, and founding partner of Little Yoga Warriors, LLC, will be trekking into two restricted regions of Nepal, Dolpo and Mustang. Her goal is to deliver 250 pairs of shoes and socks to children and adults who often hike shoeless for multiple days to attend schools or libraries within their region. “Many villagers work barefoot everyday, and over time the resulting damage leads to other structural health problems,” said Homes. “Providing durable, supportive footwear was one way I could make a difference. The generosity and outpouring of support from outdoor companies and the local community have made this trip possible. ” All donations from this event will go towards cost for airfreight, permit fees, porter fees, and customs. The outdoor, non-profit, insurance, publicity, and local companies sponsoring Homes’ expedition include: Patagonia, Souls 4 Soles, Chaco, SmartWool, Isis, Cloudveil, Zeal Optics, GoLite, Momentum Media PR, World Nomads, PrAna, Avery Brewery, and Trilogy Wine Bar. The cost is $20.00 at the door, and all proceeds will ensure that the shoes and socks arrive safely in the Dolpo and Mustang regions of Nepal.
