Puccio 6th, Johnson 7th at Canmore Cup

5/31/11 - The latest Bouldering World Cup took place in Canmore this weekend—the first time Canada has hosted an IFSC comp. While no Americans topped the podium, the U.S. was strongly represented by 13 athletes, with Alex Puccio finishing sixth overall.

Japanese climbers Tsukuru Hori and Akiyo Noguchi took gold. Austria's Anna Stöhr finished second behind Noguchi—both women topped the four finals problems, but Stöhr took one more attempt. Korea's Jain Kim took third, topping three of the four boulders. Klemen Becan of Slovenia finished second—he also took silver at the last comp in Vienna—followed by Canadian Sean McColl (who won the American Bouldering Series Nationals in February).

Puccio is ranked third overall, with Johnson trailing in 8th. Next up is the Teva Mountain Games in Vail, Colorado, this weekend. Johnson won in 2008, Puccio in 2009, but the late Chloe Graftiaux won the comp last year.
