Spanish climber Ramón (“Ramonét”) Julian Puigblanque has onsighted Suma 0 (8c/5.14b) at Cuenca, Spain, according to www.8a.nu. The 105-foot-long, steeply overhanging limestone route was established in 2004 by José Yáñez. Puigblanque is the fourth person thought to have onsighted 5.14b, after Yuji Hirayama, Tomás Mrázek, and Patxi Usobiaga.
The 24-year-old, 5-foot, 3-inch climber had flashed a 5.14b in April but called it “easy;” in the same month he established Esclatamasters (9a/5.14d) at Perles, Spain. Back in late 2002, Ramonét onsighted two 5.14a routes in a single day. In 2004, he won Climbing’s Golden Piton Award for sport climbing with his first ascent of La Rambla Original, the 5.15a extension to La Rambla (5.14c) at Siurana, Spain.Comment on this story
