At 11 a.m. on Monday, June 7, at the courthouse in Monticello, Utah, the Western Slope No-Fee Coalition will be making a presentation to San Juan County commissioners regarding the future of the Recreation Fee Demonstration Program in San Juan County, which includes the crack-climbing mecca of Indian Creek. At issue is whether fees will be charged for camping on — or simply spending the day on — the public lands that make up the Indian Creek climbing area. Recreation fees are currently charged at nearby primitive recreation sites such as Grand Gulch and Cedar Mesa, and could easily be incorporated into one of the alternatives for the Indian Creek Corridor Recreation Plan. In the past, San Juan County has supported the implementation of fees at Indian Creek. If you oppose such fees this is your chance to make your voice heard.
