12/3/10 - News link: Paul Robinson has made the second ascent of Nalle Hukkataival's Ninja Skills (V14) in Sobrio, Switzerland. In sub-freezing temperatures, Robinson had to clean snow off the topout before attempting the problem. After three days of work, Robinson sent—two tries before he completed the climb, he fell off the last (V0) move because of the melting snow.
Hukkataival established this 18-move problem in 2009. The line's crux is right at the start—the first two moves are the hardest. Robinson compares this problem's difficulty to that of Dreamtime in Cresciano, which he sent on November 25. According to 27crags.com, Robinson said about his recent sending streak, "The cold weather has really made it possible for me to climb many of Switzerland's hardest boulders in the past 10 days. Having worked the moves out during a time when the conditions were not as favorable made all the climbs feel that much easier with perfect conditions."
Robinson has sent more than 20 V12s or harder during his trip to Switzerland, including:
Ill Trill (V15, Magic Wood)
Big Paw (V14, Chironico)
Dreamtime (V14, Cresciano)
The Dagger (V14, Cresciano)
The Never Ending Story (V14, Magic Wood)
Radja (V14, Branson)
Le Lent Silence du Moleskine (V14, Fionnay)
Robinson still has several problems left to tick, including Dave Graham's Story of Two Worlds (V15), which he will attempt next.
On another note, Adam Ondra and British climber Micky Page made the (likely) third and fourth ascents of From Dirt Grows the Flowers (V15), another Dave Graham problem in Chironico.
