Join the fun December 12-14, 2008, in Sandstone, Minnesota. Try climbing ice, test out your winter camping skills, find out about the lastest designs in ski pulks. All good reasons to get off your couch and check out whats going on. This year's event has expanded, Saturday evening the Sandstone Ice Fest Winter Expo invites everyone to get out of the cold and into the Sandstone Community Center for gift bags, door prizes, vender clinics and some guest speakers. For one weekend in December, people who love the cold will gather with people who love winter camping, ice climbing, snow shoeing and skiing. Attend the clinics, eat some chili, climb, hike, ski or just hang out with some "cool" people. It all takes place on the edge of the beautiful and wild Kettle River in Sandstone, Minnesota.
Join the action Saturday evening, the Ice Festival has expanded to the Sandstone Seniors Center for the first Winter Sports Expo. Venders and speakers will have a little more elbow room, the Expo runs Saturday evening from 4-10pm.

UPDATE: 12/11/08 by Tony VavrickaSki pulk designer Ed Bouffard will be showing off his latest sled. Ed will be set up in the park to answer questions about building your own pulk. Also new to the Ice Festival is the skijoring clinics on Saturday, two clinics will be given by Positive Energy Outdoor ED-ventures. No sing-up necessary, just dress warm, clinics at 11:00 and 1:00Saturday evening get out of the cold and check out the Sandstone Ice Festival mini Winter Sports Expo. Tool sharpening clinic at 5:00 and slide show at 7:30, we'll also have door prizes and a silent auction.If you are still looking for a place to stay, Grand Casino in Hinckley has rooms available. The casino is an Ice Fest sponsor, and has been very supportive of the event. Or if you feel the need to connect with winter, just through down a bivy bag in the snow, Robinson Park is open for camping.The Kettle Kinship, a youth mentoring non-profit, will be selling Peace Coffee and other hot beverages in te park.The warm and friendly Gas Light Bar is again a main sponsor of the Ice Festival, stop by on Friday evening for dinner and drinks. The Gas Light will also be open early on Saturday and Sunday for breakfast, there will a climbers dinner Saturday evening fallowed by Fireworks and the Bernie King show.Surly beer tasting at the Gas light on Friday and The Frozen Kettle Chili Cook-off in the park on Sunday are two more reasons to make the trip to the Sandstone Ice Festival.The Sandstone Ice Festival promoters would like to remind everyone to put safety first.
