Matt Segal and Angela Payne were the top finishers at the Mammut ABS National Bouldering Championship in Boulder, Colorado. Segal, who learned to climb in Florida, of all places, bested a very strong field including runner-up John Stack. Payne, meanwhile, added her second victory in a row at The Spot gym in Boulder; she had won the PCA Tour’s Boulder Brawl II at The Spot in November. The Colorado comp was the first of three national championships that will determine the American Bouldering Series winners for 2004, as well as the members of the U.S. Bouldering Team. The final two events are in California (March 19-20) and Maryland (April 2-3). Men 1. Matt Segal 2. John Stack 3. Ethan Pringle 4. Rob D’Anastasio 5. Johnny Goicochea Women 1. Angela Payne 2.
