Chris Sharma has completed the Catalan Witness the Fitness, a tunnel-like, horizontal roof problem at Cova de l’Ocell, north of Barcelona. Sharma had been working on the problem off and on for at least a month. Named after a similar climb in Arkansas that Sharma first climbed in 2005, Catalan Witness the Fitness is likely V15 or harder.
Here’s what Sharma had to say about it at his Instagram page: “I’ve been trying this line on and off for quite some time, so it felt good to see it through finally. It’s been great process getting back into the bouldering groove! I’m not so sure about the grade, but it’s something like an 8B/+ [V13/14] into an 8A+ [V12] , so whatever that means 😉 It will be really cool to see more climbers try it and get their opinion!”
Cova de l’Ocell is the same area where Sharma did his hardest first ascent ever, El Bon Combat (9b/+ or 5.15b/c), a 25-meter route he described as having five V12 boulder problems in a row, with only “not great” rests.
