Chris Sharma, said to be in the best shape of his life, established his hardest boulder problem yet in Arkansas’ Ozark Mountains. Witness the Fitness is a 40-foot horizontal roof route that took Sharma four days to climb. The new problem is unrated, but Sharma said it is harder than Hueco Tanks’ Esperanza (V14), which Sharma climbed for its third ascent earlier this winter. “Witness is the craziest line I’ve ever seen that’s been done,” Sharma told Big Up Productions, which was on hand to film his ascent. “It has Esperanza-style roof climbing, but it’s three times as long and it has a harder crux that comes near the end.” Sharma linked the improbable crux moves of Witness after two days of work, just as he was scheduled to leave for a trip to Japan. He decided to rebook his ticket and stay to finish the problem, which he finally completed on March 13.
