8/14/13 – Twelve-year-olds Mirko Caballero and Ashima Shiraishi have climbed One Summer in Paradise (V13) in Magic Wood, Switzerland.

This is Caballero’s first problem of that grade. He also climbed a V11 and V12, Unendliche Geschichte 2 and Unendliche Geschichte 1. Chris Sharma made the first ascent of the V12 in 2003.

Shiraishi first climbed V13 in March 2012 with an ascent of Hueco Tanks’ Crown of Aragorn, and then again in August 2012 with Steady Plums Direct in Rocklands, South Africa.

Each climber also has impressive route ascents on their tick list: In addition to being the youngest person to climb V13, Shiraishi also became the youngest to climb 5.14c with Southern Smoke and Lucifer in the Red River Gorge, Kentucky, in October 2012. Caballero has redpointed numerous 5.14a routes, including Scarface at Smith Rock, Oregon.

Date of ascents: August 14, 2013
