Stohr, Fischhuber Winners at Millau Bouldering Cup

4/15/13 – Austrians Anna Stöhr and Kilian Fischhuber won the second leg of the 2013 Bouldering World Cup, held in Millau, France.

Stöhr—undoubtedly the world’s leading bouldering comp climber—had stiff competition this round. She was in last place going into finals; Alex Puccio, the only American to compete, led the pack there, but finished in fourth place. But Stöhr came back strong in finals, going head to head with Briton Shauna Coxsey; they each topped the four problems, but Stöhr needed one less attempt than Coxsey, clinching her win. Japan’s Akiyo Noguchi finished third with three topouts.

The men’s competition was very clear-cut: Fischhuber trailed in both qualifications and semi-finals, but pulled it together in finals by impressively topping out three of the four problems. Notably, no other male competitor topped more than one finals problem. France’s Guillaume Glairon-Mondet finished second, followed by Dutch climber Jorg Verhoeven.

Stöhr is sitting at the top of the rankings list, after having won the first stage of this year’s Bouldering Cup in Chongqing, China, in March. She is also the 2012 champion. Fischhuber didn’t attend the comp in Chongqing, but is currently ranked second, following Dmitry Sharafutdinov, first-place finisher in Chongqing.
