Taos Mountain Film Festival already has an impressive slate of guests booked for this year’s festival on Oct 7th through 10th 2004.Kitty Calhoun has been at the forefront of alpine climbing for two decades. Many impressive ascents in the great ranges, including Dhaulagiri and Makalu in the Himalaya and anew route on the West Face of Middle Triple in Alaska have established her as one of the leading female climbers in the world.Infamous for the audacity of his climbs Jim Bridwell continues to put up new routes of the highest grade. Colorful and controversial he is sure to bring an engaging presence to the festival. John Bachar amazed the climbing world with the boldness of his soling in the late seventies. He will present a new film featuring his career and a slide show of the photos that put him at the forefront of the climbing world.Glen Denny was one of the leading climbers in Yosemite during the Golden Era. But it was as a photographer and filmmaker that he is best known. Denny will present an exhibition of his photographs that comprise the most comprehensive record of the climbs and characters from that period. In 1968 five young men drove from California to Patagonia put up a new route on Fitzroy. Lito Tejada-Flores’ will present his film of that historic climb in the company of climbers Chris Jones and Dick Dorworth in our Climb Reunion feature. The other members of the climbing team, Yvon Chouinard and Doug Tomkins are invited to attend. In keeping with Taos Mountainfilm’s interest in the literary side of mountaineering many of the guests will read from their work. An expert in this field Jon Bowermaster has written extensively on the outdoors and will be presenting films and reading from his work.2004 marks the first staging of Taos Mountainfilm’s quiz show, “Who Wants to be a Mountaineer”.
