IFSC Bouldering World Cup Returns
4/7/10 - The Vail Valley Foundation is proud to announce the climbing events for the 9th annual Teva Mountain Games, the nation's largest outdoor adventure event, which will return to Vail, Colorado, June 3 - 6, 2010. In addition to the amateur climbing competitions, Teva Mountain Games will host the IFSC Bouldering World Cup, the only World Cup event on U.S. soil.
Bouldering is the simplest style of climbing. Without the encumbrance of a rope, the climber is free to practice the sport at its highest level. The object is to complete boulder problems, which require a serious blend of gymnastic ability and grip strength. For climbers, most of whom are used to practicing their sport in remote locations or competing in small-scale events, the Teva Mountain Games is almost a shock to the system with its massive wall, national television exposure, thousands of cheering fans, a big cash prize, and the world's most elite climbers all on one roster.
Alongside the climbing events, this year's other sporting events include kayaking, rafting, mountain biking, road cycling, fly-fishing, stand-up paddling, trail running, and a half marathon. In addition to competitive adventure sports, the Teva Mountain Games also include a photography competition, interactive exhibition and demo area, DockDog canine competitions, the Serac Adventure Film School, an interactive family area, free concerts and mountain lifestyle parties.
