June 3-6 – Teva Mountain Games held in Vail Colorado is the largest celebration of mountain sports and culture in the United States. Professional and amateur athletes from around the world will compete in bouldering, mountain biking, whitewater paddling, and cross-country running – the event is the GORE-TEX USA trail running championship. In addition to the world class competitions the Mountain Games will include performances by Gov’t Mule and Jurassic 5, mountain lifestyle parties, and Gear Town – a consumer trade expo with the coolest new outdoor gear and related products. Climbing Magazine is the Presenting sponsor of the climbing element of the Mountain Games. This year’s climbing competition will have the ever-popular difficulty bouldering event and two new events – speed bouldering and a freestyle dyno competition. The freestyle dyno event is an innovative approach to a climbing competition. “Think of NBA dunk fests.” Says Scott Rennak, the director of the climbing element of the Mountain Games and developer of the freestyle dyno concept. “The climbers have to blend creativity, difficulty and execution into three crowd pleasing dynos… I think we are going to see moves never performed in competition before.” The difficulty bouldering event promises to be a highlight of the Mountain Games. “Half a dozen world class caliber bouldering comps happen each year in the US and the TEVA Games will definitely rank among them. We have commitments from top climbers from all over North America and anticipate as strong of a field as any other event this year.” Notes Rennak. The 2004 Teva Mountain Games is a great way to see elite competition in an array of mountain sports, see the hottest new outdoor gear, and take in quality entertainment.
