Dave MacLeod has climbed The Hurting, a summertime E4 6a (hard 5.11) on Cairngorm, creating Scotland’s first Grade XI route, according to www.ukclimbing.com. The Scottish XI 11 grade translates roughly to M9+ or M10 climbing with groundfall potential. MacLeod climbed the route on his second attempt, placing gear entirely on the lead, in blizzard conditions and with verglas-covered cracks.

See www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=119828 for more details and a lengthy discussion of the route.
