Traversi Grabs Third Ascent of Meadowlark Lemon (V15)

2/12/13 – Carlo Traversi has made the third ascent of Meadowlark Lemon (V15) at the Gateway Canyon Boulders outside Las Vegas, Nevada. Paul Robinson first climbed the problem in January 2012, and the boulder sat unrepeated until Dave Graham’s ascent a year later. The problem is an extension to a V13.

On his scorecard, Traversi called Meadowlark Lemon a five-star line. “I had to adopt a much different way and way more powerful sequence through the crux because of my height,” he said (he’s shorter than Robinson and Graham). “One of the most impressive boulders I’ve ever seen.” He also climbed a new problem he called The Reflecting Pool, which Robinson repeated soon after; both suggested V13.

Traversi climbed his first V15 in March 2011 with the second ascent of The Game, a 2010 Daniel Woods problem in Boulder Canyon, Colorado, that many hailed as the first V16 in the United States. Traversi suggested V15 felt more appropriate, and Woods later agreed. Jon Cardwell holds the third ascent of The Game.

Traversi’s other V15s include In Search of Time Lost and Practice of the Wild in Magic Wood, Switzerland; both were climbed in October 2012.
