Mia Manson, Colin Duffy, Ross Fulkerson, and Chloe Massenat may not be household names in the climbing community. But as national champions in their age groups, they probably will be soon.
These four climbers were among the more than 350 who converged on the Stone Summit gym in Atlanta over the Fourth of July weekend for the 2013 SCS Youth Championship. The annual event determines national champions and helps select U.S. team members in five age categories, in both speed and lead climbing. Team members will be able to compete at the World Youth Climbing Championships in British Columbia, August 15–19, the first time this world championship has been held in North America.
In the team competition in Atlanta, the perennially strong Team Texas took the title once again, followed by Zero Gravity (California) and Vertical World (Washington). Visit the SCS Nationals website to see all of the individual and team results, and check out the highlights in the video below.
Dates of event: July 4–7, 2013
