September 29, 2015 – American Megan Mascarenas and Canadian Sean McColl won the annual Adidas Rockstars invitational bouldering comp in Stuttgart, Germany. Forty-five climbers from 23 countries competed, with Mascarenas going head-to-head against Akiyo Noguchi (Japan) in a timed superfinal and McColl battling it out with Rei Sugimoto (Japan) in the superfinal.
For Mascarenas, 17, the victory capped a year in which the young Colorado Springs climber shot onto the international stage, winning the Vail World Cup in June and finishing third in the Munich World Cup in August. Mascarenas ended up ranked fifth overall for the season, despite entering only two World Cups.
McColl, 28, also won a World Cup in June, in Chongqing, China. His Adidas Rockstars victory makes him the all-time leader in this event—he won in 2012 and 2014 as well. Below are videos of the two superfinal performances—don't miss Mascarenas’ wild and clever top-out for the win.
