Woods, Menlove Win ABS National

Daniel Woods from Colorado and Portia Menlove from Utah won the American Bouldering Series National at The Spot Gym in Boulder, Colorado, on Feb. 19. Fifteen-year-old Woods dominated the men’s comp. He won the qualifying round on Friday and was the only male climber to finish all four final problems, flashing two of them, before a crowd of around 400 on Saturday night. Menlove managed only 13th place in the qualifying round but rose to the occasion in the finals. Three women finalists completed all four problems, but Menlove flashed three of the four to earn the victory.The top three men and women at this comp each earned a spot on the U.S. Bouldering Team for the 2005 international season.
